Dundee Museum of Transport will mark the 70th anniversary of Dundee’s last tram journey in 2026 with the creation of a new exhibition that celebrates the city’s rich tram heritage. The exhibition will capture photography, moving images, artefacts and the stories of those who worked and travelled on them. We need your help to raise a minimum of £25,000 to turn our plans for this new exhibition into a reality. We have just six weeks to raise this sum so if you can help us reach our goal or know someone who can please click the link below and help us celebrate Dundee’s transport heritage. Thank you!

A massive thank you to everyone who supported our Crowdfunder campaign to raise funds to restore the damaged bricks at Maryfield Tram Depot.

Since the launch in mid November over 500 supporters have helped us raise just over £34,000 including Gift Aid which will all go towards the restoration work to create a permanent home for Dundee Museum of Transport.

If you missed the Crowdfunder campaign you can still make a donation to support our efforts.

Every penny raised will contribute to the costs of restoring the Tram Depot giving you the opportunity to play an important role in the future of this significant historical landmark.

🚍🕰️ From the museum archive, today’s image shows a Dundee Corporation Transport double decker, Fleet Number 70 (YJ4115), a Daimler COG6 with Cowieson bodywork. Supplied new to Dundee in 1936, it served the city for two decades before being scrapped in 1956.

Captured offside at an unknown location, the photograph preserves the look of one of Dundee’s pre-war buses, reflecting an era when Cowieson-built bodies were a familiar sight on the city’s streets.

The museum is now open from 10am to 4.30pm, Friday to Monday. 📸🗂️

We want to send a massive thank you to everyone who came to the museum last Friday evening for our last Cars & Coffee event of the year! It was a perfect evening with around 70 fantastic cars and 6 motorcycles.

Thank you too, to our inspirational speaker Mark Ryan, who brought along his stunning 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS which he renovated over four years before taking it on a victory tour around Europe.

We’re really grateful to the enthusiastic community that has supported our first season of monthly events, and we look forward to doing it all again next year!

AMAZING!! 🤩 Thank you to everyone who came along for our Cars and Coffee meet up last Friday. We had over 80 cars and 20 bikes and trikes!

Our final event of the season will be held on Friday 27th September at the earlier time of 6pm until 8.30pm. This is to allow for reduced daylight and also so that you can be there in plenty of time to hear from our guest speaker!

We’re looking forward to welcoming Mark Ryan who will give a talk about recent a tour of Italy in his Ferrari.

Jowett Bradford ready to thrive again.

Our Restoration Team have just finished their most recent project – the Jowett Bradford van. One of the members of our team, Ali, told us the story of the vehicle.

“We were asked if we could restore the Jowett Bradford van after it had been brought to the museum in non-running condition seven years ago. It had all kinds of issues – engine, battery, fuel pump and carburettor. After putting in all the work, it runs reliably and was easy to drive round Market Mews and into the museum.”

Owner, Sandra Purves, will also be showing the vehicle at the Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle on 8th & 9th July.

This Sunday marks National Children’s Day recognising the importance of protecting the rights and freedoms of children and young people to have a healthy childhood.

We think our museum is a fabulous place for young enquiring minds and so to celebrate the day, we’re offering free entry to all children visiting this Sunday.

George Clooney’s butt has been here!

Visit our Movie Cars exhibition to see the huge snowmobile featured in George Clooney’s film ‘The Midnight Sky’.

Released in 2020, this post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine, a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe.

In one scene, the ice below Augustine gives way and the snowmobile goes under.

Visit our Movie Cars exhibition to see iconic vehicles from your favourite movies. The Museum is open every day except Tuesday, from 10am to 4.30pm. Family tickets and annual memberships are available.
