On 9th January 2023 work started at the Maryfield Tram Depot to repair roof timbers in the western half of the building. This is the first step towards making this earliest section of the building wind and watertight. The roof timbers and roof covering have suffered over past decades due to water ingress.
Specialist contractors will replace rotten roof joists and install a new central valley, replacing slipped and damaged slates in the process. The work is expected to take 8-10 weeks and has been generously supported by two local funders including Dundee Historic Environment Trust. Fundraising efforts are continuing with a plan to continue repair works throughout 2023 and give this important building some much needed tlc.
